Scenic Rim Reconnaissance

Hi all,

On Sunday afternoon I travelled to Boonah to do some recon of the stages of the upcoming Scenic Rim Tour.

This is what i discovered.

Stage 1 - Road Race

11 Km circuit and you are either going up hill or down hill, no flats at all. Gradients for most hills between 4 and 10 %. Climbs vary between 100m to 1 km. This stage will be hard, made worse if the winds were as crazy as Sunday.

Stage 2 - ITT

FAST, thats all i can say. I managed 42.3 km/hr, not maxing out and getting blown all over the road by the winds.

Stage 3 - Kermesse

Steady climb just after the start. it is a 7 km circuit. After that rolling hills for a bit and some really fast downhill sections then onto around 3-4 km of flats, but heading straigh into a headwind. Flat finish.

Anyways i might head out there again next weekend to practice the TT as i know that will most likely decide the whole race.

cheers

Jason
