I checked the garmin & that suicide last break finished with ½ a lap to go. Updated below.
Date: 30th Jan 2010
Race: Murrarie
Grade: C “Classy” Grade
Starters: Limokourov, Hardman Bonner, Dave
Results: Chris 1st, Terrence 8th, Dave mid pack.
Description: After a relatively classy start, the first 15 minutes were relatively non-eventful. Only a few were willing to keep the pace up on the front with a few turns done by the D3 team. A B-Grade breakaway of 2 including Nick George came past and were followed by a few chasers (nice one scotty & chewy). After B-Grades prime the rest of B-Grade came past and a few of the C-Graders on the front failed to let the other race past. Eventually all but one C-grader (later disqualified) dropped back to the bunch. By now we were 35 mins into the race and the prime called very late.
Chris went for the sprint prime to be pipped by half a wheel, with a breakaway attempt following shortly after. Bonner was quick to mark the break and had it covered in typical hardman style. Chris happily munched on handlebar tape from his prime effort.
All too soon it was 3 laps to go with the usual ‘positioning’ within the bunch. A couple of near-wheel touches, lots of yelling, and a late bump and fall (balmoral dude) wraps up the second-last lap. Bonner and Dave pushed the pace hard with another attack with 1 ½ laps to go – which lasted till ½ a lap to the finish – both spent custard. Coming into the final corner the pace jumped up with Chris going early to avoid any collateral damage that was quickly becoming the norm. Limocourov by 3 lengths while trialing his compact crank. Another win for the D3 Classy’s.
