Hey all,
I've had to make a few hard decisions recently and unfortunately another one came to me last week. After the Oakey kermesse, I had a couple calls come in from a couple of people. One of those happened to be from the manager of the Merida team. Basically, the Merida team had one remaining spot on the team which was created when James Hepburn left last month. They were looking for one extra rider who could fill the gaps in the current team’s abilities, namely climbing and longer road races. My name came up and after the Oakey race they decided to approach me.
For me, the decision was not an easy one. I've put alot into Data3 over the past 10 months and I have seen it grow and evolve. I owe more than I can possibly repay to Andrew Heath for his support and commitment over that period of time. I was riding in plain kit when Andrew got me on board and the support I have received has been amazing.
I spoke with Andrew regarding the situation and I have come to the decision, with his approval, to begin riding for the Merida team in mid-march after the Mount Cootha Challenge. Deep down, I know that I do really want to have one last attempt at the major races down south such as the Tour of Tasmania. Merida would provide access to these events and the team is a logical stepping stone to the level which I seek to achieve.
I am filled with tremendous guilt regard the decision. I feel like I am 'bailing' on the team and I really do hope that the team at the A grade level will continue to grow and riders will be given the support that I have received over my time here. I will be racing the remaining two summer series races in the Data3 colours and I am looking forward to getting out there with Toby and new recruit Stuart Mulhurn.
I thank everyone for their interest in my long rambling blog entries, their company on rides and their support in general. I'll see you all out on the road soon. I may soon be in a different team kit, but I'm still David, so please don't hesitate to have a chat.
All the best
David

David there is no need to feel regret with a calculated step up like this.
There is a lot of meaningless team changing that goes on and it is stupid and unproductive. This however is certainly not one of those cases.
good luck with the move and we will watch your progress with open eyes.
hope to be racing you in those tours over the next few seasons
What Chew said!
See you around mate, hopefully challenging you in the future.
Sounds like a great opportunity and an ideal stepping stone to achieve what you want.
Best of luck.
All the best Dave for the season & thanks for your contribution to the team. It has been greatly appreciated. We'll follow your progress with interest.
You'll be more than welcome around the bonfire post G2I this year. Catch you around the coffee houses.
