Rolled out of vegas around 6:30 with TakeAway coffee from la dolche, and headed straight for the Start Finish line of the BOTB saturday road race course, Rolled around for an easy 40k,
lunch at the art gallery.
then onto Murwillumbah for the club race that afternoon.
Unfortunately my choice of lunches was not the best and it almost came up a few times before the first turn around.. It was an awesome race, 70k of balls to the wall lots of short sharp climbs, Jason and I raced A grade and Sarah in C. Large fields as well with about 20 of the Indian Road race team present who are apparently training for the commonwealth games in Northern NewSouthWales.
From the Go the pace was on and the short pinchy climbs really took a toll and as the k's ticked by I never really had my race head on and didnt bridge across to the successful break that had most of the key teams represented (stupid stupid stupid). Jason and I both missed out chances and up one of the climbs near the end we were within 50m of the leaders but never put in the effort.. With the break of 5 surviving, I was satisfied to finish in the bunch and keeping my iced coffee down, were around 10-15th. there was a very high drop out rate
Sarah also had a good race and finished with the bunch in C grade
Over night the rain set in and the morning crit was canned.. not complaing to much we had a 'long' breakfast before a mid morning nap then drove over to Cabarita (SALT) to inspect the 2nd of the road race courses.
This course is fun with some nice views, we escaped a massive downpour by sitting under this tree for 20mins watching the radar on the Iphone, the rest of the ride was in sun shine.
Fun weekend out, for 120 a night it was well worth making a weekend out of it.
