Battle on the border - a quick report

what a great weekend. Awesome experience and I am glad I was part of it. Erik, Neil, Sam, Pat and myself hit up B grade and was slapped with four stages of hurt. First stage was the ITT, and thanks to the cold and lack of warm up, I am still coughing like a ...person with a really bad cough...?

Next up was stage 2 road race - 66km and we had over 90 riders in our grade thanks to the addition on Masters A and U/19b grades.
This made it tough to get a good position - didnt really matter for me however as I popped on the last lap. Stage 3 was no better, having popped on the first climb of the day ... had some help of others in our small group an
d made it back in time without too much of a deficit.

Last stage was a 30min crit, and I wanted to prove to my fans that I was still worthy of being classed as a B grade rider. Gilly had given concise and clear instructions - "be in the top ten, or your days over". The start was fast and furious, and within the first corner I was in the top 5 or 6, and stayed liked that all race. It was tough on the front, especially down the back straight. One poor bugger was on my wheel around a tight corner, and completely lost it coming out of the left hander - ended up flinging himself onto a parked car, which just so happened to be the first aid vehicle. Race was stopped, and we resumed after 12min, with lactic filled legs, but I guess we were all in the same boat so i wasnt complaining. Last lap was great - I over took 2 riders
in the sprint to come 5th overall, and 3rd in elite B... I have never out sprinted anyone before, so I was chuffed!

Dave Mcadam had an interesting souvenir to take home from the tour. To the right you will see a result of the big man stopping to a halt ... notice the lack of rubber as a result!

Well done to the team for competing in such a tough race - Shaun, David, Dave, Erik, Neil, Sam, Pat, Nick Martin and Nikolina !

correction - I remember out sprinting Shaun once ... I smashed him. Although, he wasnt aware it was on until it was too late, all he could do is watch as I celebrated down the road.
