Day 2 at Camp Gulag

The second day at camp Gulag began bright and early at 5am. After a round of cereal, fruit and many coffee's the team set out on a 120km training ride which coach Nikolai had prepared for us.

We departed from our camp in Lister NSW and swapped-off to Stanthorpe. First effort done, and many more as stipulated by coach Nikolai. After a brief light pedal the team continued west through Stanthorpe, following directions from team mate Terence. The rest of the ride consisted of many more efforts until we had looped back into Stanthorpe where we were able to pedal lightly before our last effort.

The last effort had slight race feel to it. Coach Nikolai sent four riders up the road in a break to a gap of two minutes before the rest of the team were able to start the chase. The four rides worked together for a few k's when team mate, David Crosswell, decided he was strong enough to sit on the front and pull big turns. He dug very deep, sacrificing himself to stay away from the chase group for as long as possible. At this point Andrew Heath was finally excited as he had something exciting to follow in the team support car. David Melville and David Brown were the first two riders to be seen by the break, this is when I decided it was time to jump the break to stay away from the riders chasing. It worked with 4 David's crossing the line 1,2,3 and 4.

The team gathered and packed their belongings before a quick bite to eat and a finial team briefing.
Overall I believe the camp was a great success with thanks to the team at Data #3 for all of their effort organising the camp.
