good days - bad days

anyone that knows about running running a 2:04:26 marathon is out of this world.. to average around 2:50 min k's is insane... my personal best stand alone 1km time is 2:54 and he can run faster than that for 42.2 in a row...... and the world record is now even faster 2:03:xx

Sport can be hard.. the word 'sport' and sucess is much like fishing / catching. Looking back to sunday it was funny all of the problems our team had. Starting early in the day it was raining... I slept in and missed the entire morning. Dave Melville cant remember what happened but he missed his alarm all together and got to the garage and hour late after the start, found his timing chip in the bin and took a direct route to the base of the mountain where he flatted 1k before the start. dave decided to call it a day and head home, mean while dave brown and sam wood both finished top 5 in cootha challenge.... pretty good for Dave Melvilles domestics!

Mt Cotton race

Dave Melville rocked up with fresh legs, got his number from rego, and when taking his bike out of the car he saw a fatal crack in his chain stay of his brand new Cannondale. How much power have you got Dave? look to see Dave on another new Merida this weekend.

both Nikolai and Richard were warned by their lovely wife's not to crash today and if they did only call once they are successfully treated in hospital! I think that took the edge off their risk taking and that cost them in the early stages of the race.

I had great legs and found my self in the winning move with Reuben and the FlyV boys for two laps when my cluster came loose and locked the back wheel up, there are no spares or convoy to get going again, so I put a rain coat on and watched

Dave Brown was forced to run wide around the dipping right hander and he had to make a U-turn on the skid pan to get back on course and was never able to recover and get back in the peloton. I think Dave was doing ITT efforts for the next 30mins

Sam Wood was tapping away getting an easy ride in the peloton and at the 1 hour mark got a puncture from a 'safety' pin that got caught in his tyre

Reuben had a successful race and finished 3rd, after the presentation riding to the car he broke a spoke

That's a massive pile of excuses but when variance catches up with you, you have to remember the good and the bad days! I was reading an article from a sports phyc a little while ago talking about golfers and basically saying that a golfer likes to think they are as good as their best round/shot however they are actually only as good as the average of all of their rounds including their best and worst. Making the golfer understand this when he is running bad he can appreciate his run of bad luck and not make it more destructive than it already is. Seeing an athlete throw in the towel and become destructive is very damaging.. this is NOT bad luck.

so make the most of it when you have it, and when your dont be patient and never give up
