Muzza Race Report C Grade 14/05/11

Only two starters from Data3 C grade this week being Adam Clark and myself, total field was around 35 starters. Pace was high from the start, with several willing workers and a couple of teams working together to keep things moving. I was personally wanting to not do much work today and have a go at the sprint so it was nice to see some others working hard this week. A few small break attempts in first half the race but none were allowed to get far. Prime came around and I was feeling good and in good position coming into main straight behind the first wheel. Waited just a second too long and got jumped by the prime winner. Second half of the race was uneventful with good pace until the commissaires called three laps to go with only 33 minutes on the clock. No idea why they called it 7 minutes early, but this meant everyone was fresh and a bunch sprint was inveitable. The bunch sprint came around with Adam in good position on the outside and me on same good wheel as prime on the inside. Adam was held up by someone sitting up at start of last straight (why do they do this?) and me going at start of straight. My sprint was really good since I had done no work on front all race, passed a few quite wuickly then set sights on third place Adam. He pipped me on the line by about a tyre width for fourth. First and second were a few metres further ahead on the line. A shame for us not to score a higher place especially after not smashing ourselves but learning I need to jump a bit earlier and trust my legs. Race average was 40.0Km/h on the Garmin.
Interestingly while waiting for our prizemoney the comms were telling B grade 1st and 2nd place they were thinking about fining their teammate for leading out their sprint and sitting up in front of other sprinters in the main straight - be warned!
